La Cueva de los Peces in a few words
Located in the infamous Bay of Pigs, the Cueva de los Peces is a cenote, a flooded tectonic fault, more than 70 meters deep.
Its crystalline waters are full of tropical fishes and multicolored corals.
It’s a great playground for snorkeling and diving lovers!
Getting to the Cueva de los Peces
The Cueva de los Peces is located halfway between Playa Larga and Playa Giron, in the Province of Matanzas.
If you do not plan to sleep in the Bay of Pigs (we do not recommend it), the Cueva de los Peces is also easily accessible from Cienfuegos.
From there, you can book an excursion through the Cubanacan or Havanatur agencies, or simply rent a cab for the day (about 60 CUC).
It takes about 1.5 hours from the center of Cienfuegos.
You can also continue to Playa Giron and Punta Perdiz.
Things to do at Cueva de los Peces
Cueva de los Peces is home to an incredible variety of tropical fish.
It is 70 meters deep and is the entry point to a network of underwater caves leading to the sea.
It is therefore an ideal spot for snorkeling and diving.
There is a diving center where you can rent equipment or organize a trip.
The water of the Cueva de los Peces is fresh, and colder than the sea.
If you want to warm up, you just have to cross the road! The beach on the other side is very nice.
It is also a very good spot for diving and snorkeling.
