Location & Access

The Pico Ruivo Viewpoint is situated near the summit of Madeira Island's highest peak, Pico Ruivo. While there isn't a single 'address' in the traditional sense, it is best accessed via hiking trails. The most popular starting points for reaching Pico Ruivo include Achada do Teixeira and the various trails originating from Pico do Areeiro.

Reaching the Pico Ruivo viewpoint primarily involves hiking.

• From Achada do Teixeira: This is the shortest and most accessible route, a well-maintained path of approximately 2.8 km (one way) leading directly to the summit. It is achievable for most hikers with moderate fitness.
• From Pico do Areeiro: This is a more challenging and longer hike, traversing multiple peaks and offering spectacular, dramatic scenery. It is recommended for experienced hikers.

Car access to the vicinity of Achada do Teixeira is possible, with a small car park available. From Pico do Areeiro, there is also a car park, but the hike to Pico Ruivo is considerably more demanding.
