Rincón de la Vieja National Park is situated approximately 25 kilometers northeast of Liberia, in the Guanacaste Region of Costa Rica. The park has two main entrances: Las Pailas (the most visited) and Santa María. The Las Pailas sector is accessible via a well-marked road from Liberia, while Santa María requires a 4x4 vehicle due to rougher terrain.

  • From Liberia: Take Route 1 (Pan-American Highway) north, then turn onto Route 918 toward Curubandé. Follow signs to the park entrance (about 1-hour drive).
  • Public Transport: Buses run from Liberia to Curubandé, but a taxi or rental car is recommended for the final stretch.
