Jardin – Antioquia Department – Colombia
As I prepare to launch my first bird photography tour in just a few days, I wanted to introduce you to one of the true stars of our upcoming adventure: the Andean Cock-of-the-rock. This bird is a photographer’s dream, instantly recognizable by its brilliant, almost neon-orange plumage and that iconic fan-shaped crest that gives it such a prehistoric, otherworldly appearance. We are heading to Colombia, which is widely celebrated as the premier destination for bird photography in the world. Boasting the highest bird diversity on the planet, Colombia offers a breathtaking array of endemic species and vibrant landscapes that provide the perfect backdrop for our work. From the misty cloud forests where these birds perform their elaborate lek dances to the lush, biodiverse valleys, every corner of this country feels like a new discovery. I am incredibly excited to get behind the lens and witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat as we kick off this journey together.
