Where does the Carretera Austral begin and end?
The Carretera Austral, officially known as Route CH-7, begins in the city of Puerto Montt, located in the southern part of Chile’s Los Lagos Region. Stretching over approximately 1,240 kilometers, this rugged and scenic highway winds through the remote and breathtaking landscapes of Chilean Patagonia. It traverses a variety of terrains, including dense forests, fjords, and mountain ranges. The Carretera Austral concludes in Villa O’Higgins, a small village in the Aysén Region.
