After lunch the afternoon belongs to the lodge feeders and gardens, where specialty species come in close. Endemic Santa Marta Blossomcrown and Sierra Nevada Brushfinch lead, with Red-billed Parrot, Black-chested Jay, Crested Oropendola, tanagers and Blue-naped Chlorophonia among the visitors, and Lazuline Sabrewing, Crowned Woodnymph, Sparkling and Lesser Violetear, Steely-vented Hummingbird and Brown Violetear at the sugar water. Band-tailed and Crested Guan, Rosy Thrush-tanager, Sooty-capped Hermit and the vulnerable Military Macaw (VU) are specialty targets near the lodge, and three variant subspecies — Yellow-billed Toucanet, Santa Marta Toucanet and Santa Marta (Coopman's) Tyrannulet — plus the rare Fulvous-headed Tanager add taxonomy worth a close look.
