Parque Nacional Natural El Tuparro

El Tuparro National Park protects a long, wild stretch of the Orinoco in Vichada, where gallery forest, rocky outcrops, and shoreline vegetation line the river. The journey's first two nights are spent at a base camp inside the park, within reach of the Maipures Rapids and the Tuparro River. Camp nights here set the tone for the whole route: simple, river-based, and governed by daylight.

The first two nights are camp nights inside El Tuparro National Park, reached by boat from Puerto Carreño. The camp is the walking base for the Maipures Rapids, the Tuparro River journey to Raudalito Caño Lapa, and the Caño Lapa waterfall — everything the first two days need is close by. Expect simple, trek-style camp nights rather than lodge comfort.

Pro Aves Reserve Biological Corridor Birding

Visit the Pro Aves Reserve, a biological corridor home to the Indigo-winged Parrot (Hapalopsittaca fuertesi); the moss- and frailejon-rich ecosystem regulates the water source and maintains connectivity for Spectacled Bear and other endemic fauna.

Chicaque Park Birding

Look for the near-endemic Golden-bellied Starfrontlet in Chicaque Park, plus other high-elevation birds that move in the mixed flocks.
