A frontier town on the Madre de Dios river, passed on the boat journey out of the Manu Biosphere Reserve toward Puerto Maldonado. The riverbank is a staging point where the boat legs give way to overland transport through the Inambari River crossing.

Celendín

A town in the Cajamarca region of northern Peru, Celendín sits above the Marañon Canyon and is the base after the long descent from the Abra Barro Negro high pass, with morning birding for the disjunct Rufous-fronted Thornbird and the near-endemic Fulvous-faced Scrub-Tyrant.
