Cuba is home to over 25 endemic bird species that can be found nowhere else on Earth. This tour is specifically routed and paced to maximize your chances of capturing high-quality, portfolio-grade photographs of these unique species in their natural habitats. Our primary targets include:

The Bee Hummingbird: As the world’s smallest bird, this tiny marvel is a true bucket-list subject. We will visit specific feeding hotspots where you can practice high-speed action photography to freeze its rapid wingbeats.
The Cuban Tody: This pocket-sized, brilliantly colored forest dweller is famous for its bright pink throat, green upperparts, and surprisingly curious nature, making it an incredibly cooperative subject for close-up shots.
The Cuban Trogon: Cuba’s national bird boasts striking red, white, and blue plumage that mirrors the national flag. Its habit of sitting motionless for long stretches offers excellent opportunities for sharp, beautifully composed portraits.

Instead of rushing to build a massive “trip list,” we prioritize patience, staying at key locations to wait for the best light, clean backgrounds, and natural behaviors. If you prefer a fast-paced hiking trip focused solely on species count, this slower, deliberate pace may not suit you. However, if you want the time and expert guidance needed to capture stunning images of rare birds, this tour is designed for you.

Physical and Gear Expectations

Most of our birding takes place on flat to gently sloping forest trails, requiring only a moderate level of physical fitness. To make the most of this experience, we recommend a camera setup with a telephoto lens of at least 400mm (or equivalent). Because we will often be shooting under dense forest canopies, lenses with fast apertures and cameras with good high-ISO performance are highly advantageous.
