Greenland Red Sails Midnight Sun Photo Workshop in Disko Bay
This 6-day photography journey in Greenland follows Disko Bay from Ilulissat to Ilulissat Icefjord, Sermermiut and Oqaatsut, with five nights based in Ilulissat.
Greenland Red Sails Photo Workshop in Disko Bay is a six-day, five-night photography journey based in Ilulissat, on the shore of the ice fjord. We stay in a four-star hotel used as our base, with airport transfers and breakfasts. The rhythm balances time on the water under the Midnight Sun with daytime rest, town exploration, and practical post-processing sessions with the photo guides.
After arrival and a first evening ice fjord cruise, we review images and refine editing, keep a free afternoon in Ilulissat, and sail into the ice fjord via small settlements whose dock depends on conditions. We walk the paved Kangia Coastline to Sermermiut and Sermeq Kujalleq, about an hour each way, and visit the fishing settlement of Oqaatsut by boat. Other evenings are spent practising long exposures, sailing just before midnight in search of compositions, and cruising for icebergs and wildlife beneath the Midnight Sun, watching for humpback whales in Disko Bay. The pace is suited to photographers, with time to recharge between late sails.
On the final day we gather to talk through the expedition before transferring to Ilulissat Airport. We also assist with planning onward travel to other Greenlandic settlements such as Nuuk, Tasiilaq, or Aasiaat.

No. Photography is one of the ways we observe and connect with a place, but it is not a requirement. Our journeys also welcome travellers drawn to slow travel, wildlife, culture, trekking, landscapes, and genuine encounters. You can join with professional equipment, a simple camera, or just your curiosity.
Every itinerary has its own rhythm. Some journeys are gently paced, while others include long walks, trekking, uneven terrain, altitude, or substantial travel days. The practical details on each tour page explain the expected walking, terrain, altitude, distances, and overall physical level so you can decide whether the journey suits you.
Tristan designs the itineraries and personally leads many Remote Expeditions journeys. Depending on the destination and the character of the trip, trusted local guides, drivers, cultural hosts, or specialist leaders may also join part of the route. This combination gives you direct personal support alongside local knowledge.
Often, yes. Private journeys can usually be shaped around your interests, pace, and available time. Fixed group departures have a defined route and dates, but it may still be possible to arrange additional nights, private extensions, or other travel before or after the main journey.
