La Guajira Tour — 4-Day Excursion to Punta Gallinas
Journey to South America's northernmost tip: dunes, flamingos, and Wayuu culture on a 4-day La Guajira tour.
We begin in Riohacha and travel inland through the desert to Manaure, where a guided visit to Colombia’s largest salt complex reveals a centuries-old extraction process essential to the Wayuu communities. A brief stop in Uribía, the indigenous capital, helps us understand the culture and territory before we cross the desert to Cabo de la Vela. That first afternoon we visit Playa Arcoíris, climb Pilón de Azúcar, and walk to the lighthouse as sunset settles over the Caribbean. We spend the night in hammocks at a Wayuu ranchería.
On the second morning we continue toward Punta Gallinas, the region’s most remote destination. The road passes the Jepirachi Wind Park and runs beside Bahía Honda and Bahía Hondita, where desert and sea grow more dramatic. We settle into Punta Gallinas with free time to absorb the silence and open geography.
The third day takes us over the Taroa Dunes for sweeping views of sand meeting the sea, followed by time at Playa Punta Agujas and a visit to the Punta Gallinas lighthouse, the northernmost point of South America. After a final breakfast, we make the long return to Riohacha, carrying the memory of the Wayuu communities and landscapes encountered along the way.

Colombia Photography Tour 2026
Top notch photographic experience for enthusiasts of nature, culture, and portraits. Tristan is well connected to the area and the local communities with a specialty in indigenous tribes and less-visited areas.
